Città Alta is something else entirely
The upper city just blew me away. Walking those old stone streets feels like stepping back in time, and the views over the Lombardy plain are absolutely stunning. Polenta e osei is a must-try local sweet - so unique!
Perfect little city break
Bergamo is exactly the kind of place you go when you want something real and not just another tourist trap. Città Alta is gorgeous, the food is great, and locals are genuinely welcoming. Casoncelli pasta is a must - rich, buttery, totally worth it.
Great winter getaway from the city grind
Needed a proper break and this delivered. The upper town is compact and super easy to explore on foot. Tried casoncelli alla bergamasca at a tiny restaurant near Piazza Vecchia and it was genuinely one of the best pasta dishes I've had. Cold but beautiful.
So much history packed into a small space
You don't need days here to feel like you've really seen it. The Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore alone is worth the trip. Loved how walkable everything is and the food scene in the lower town is seriously underappreciated. Great all around.
Loved every bit of the old town
Walked along the Venetian walls and the views were just incredible. The whole place has this old-world feel that's hard to find anymore. Local wine and cheese at a small shop near Via Colleoni made for a perfect afternoon. Really solid city for a short trip.
Underrated gem in northern Italy
Didn't know much about Bergamo before going but came back really impressed. Città Alta is beautiful and the cable car up is a fun way to get there. The local salami and cheeses are top quality. Way less crowded than Milan and honestly more interesting to walk around.
